New Leader Support

WOOD BADGE
PART I

What is a Wood Badge Part I?

The Wood Badge Part Iis intended to assist new leaders, by providing the basic knowledge needed to contribute to a successful quality program, as well as the skills required to work with youth. Leaders will be introduced to their section's program and through 'hands-on' work, will develop the confidence and comfort to work with section-specific age groups. Wood Badge Part I covers all aspects of program planning and operations for each particular program section, including ceremonies, program elements, planning and delivery of a quality meeting, idea starters and practice in Scouting methods. .

Do I have to take the course?

It is expected that all new leaders will complete the Wood Badge Part I within their first year. Ideally they should participate in a Wood Badge Part I within the first four months of joining the leadership team. By completing this course, the leader will have the skills to actively participate in section planning and program execution

If you find that the traditional courses do not fit with your schedule the on-line E-Learning format might be right for you. (click here)

Outdoor Skills

Although your Wood Badge Part I will give you a quick overview of the skills that you need to take Scouting outdoors, there is not enough time to give you the experience and hand on opportunities to explore these skills.

Seperate Outdoor Skills courses are offered periodically for those who want to learn the basics of camping and functioning safely outdoors.
